The UK Government’s Centre of Expertise in Green Cities, Infrastructure and Energy responds to the impacts of climate change and poverty by accelerating the delivery of sustainable cities and resilient infrastructure.
The Centre of Expertise deploys the UK’s expertise in infrastructure planning and inclusive urban development across a range of countries, supporting partner governments to invest in resilient infrastructure, create jobs and enhance productivity. The Centre of Expertise brings together the skills and capabilities of the private sector with the expertise of UK public agencies, creating a platform for delivering effective policy solutions to key challenges facing national governments and cities.
The Green Cities, Infrastructure and Energy Programme (GCIEP) is the Centre of Expertise’s flagship programme. GCIEP leads the implementation of short-term, ‘targeted offers’ responding to the needs of partner governments across Africa, Asia and the Caribbean, as well as multi-year, systemic interventions in six ‘deep offer’ countries: Ghana, Indonesia, Mozambique, Philippines, Vietnam and Zambia.
Focusing on economic infrastructure (transport and mobility, energy, water, waste management, and land use), the Centre of Expertise offers technical support to governments across the following areas:
- Infrastructure planning governance and finance
- Project preparation including (pre) feasibility studies and impact assessments
- Cross-border trade infrastructure
- Urban planning and municipal finance
- Policy development and regulatory reform
- Technology solutions and digital/data strategy development
For details regarding the programme's eligibility criteria, please contact the GCIEP.
