Suriname

Suriname submitted its first Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2019, followed by an updated version in the same year. Most recently, in November 2025, Suriname submitted its NDC 3.0.

The country commits to maintaining its carbon negative status by reducing net greenhouse (GHG) emissions through 2035.

Mitigation priorities include expanding renewable energy and improving energy efficiency, promoting hybrid and electric vehicles and cleaner transport systems, reducing emissions from industrial processes and product use, strengthening forest conservation, sustainable land use and combating deforestation and enhancing waste management with sanitary landfills, methane capture and recycling.

Adaptation priorities include strengthening water security and integrated water resource management, promoting climate resilient agriculture and fisheries, building climate resilient health systems and early warning systems, protecting coastal zones and restoring mangroves and wetlands, developing resilient infrastructure and human settlements, supporting adaptive social protection and livelihood resilience and conserving biodiversity and integrating nature-based solutions.

Suriname's NDC 3.0 was developed under the leadership of the Ministry of Oil, Gas and Environment (MINOGE) with broad stakeholder engagement including Indigenous and Tribal Peoples, youth, women and the private sector.
