Costa Rica
Costa Rica’s latest NDC was submitted in 2020 and commits to limiting net emissions to 9.11 million tons of CO2e by 2030. The NDC covers priority actions related to transport, energy, infrastructure and construction, integrated waste management, agriculture, forestry and other land use, water resources, transparency and the financial sector. Costa Rica submitted its National Decarbonization Plan (Long Term Strategy) in 2019 which codified the goal to be net zero by 2050.

Climate Commitments
- Membership: member since 2016
- Governance: Costa Rica was the Co-Chair of the NDC Partnership Steering Committee from 2018-2020 and served as a country member from 2017-2022
- Country Engagement: Since joining the Partnership, Costa Rica has requested support related to designing or improving policies, strategies, plans and legislation; preparation of NDC-related projects and pipelines for investment; mobilization of financial resources for NDC Investment projects; and designing or strengthening monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and verification (MRV systems). In addition, partners have supported various activities, including the development of low carbon development plans, electrification of public transport, and nature-based solutions to address climate change impacts.
