Nepal submitted its second NDC in 2020. The second NDC sets out various targets to achieve by 2030 including ensuring that 15% of the total energy demand comes from clean sources, increasing the sale of electric vehicles to cover 90% of all private vehicle sales, and maintaining 45% of the total land area under forest covers. The second NDC covers the energy, agriculture, forestry and other land use, industry, waste, tourism, and urban settlements sectors as well as gender equality and social inclusion and adaptation. The NDC Implementation Plan was developed to guide the implementation of the NDC targets. The total cost of implementing the NDC Implementation Plan from 2021 to 2030 is USD 33.04 billion. In 2021, Nepal submitted the Long-term Strategy for Net-zero Emissions (LTS), which sets the target of carbon neutrality by 2045 and net-zero by 2050.
