Laos
The government of Lao People Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) submitted its first NDC in 2015 and first updated NDC in March 2021. The updated NDC has an unconditional emissions reduction target of 245 tCO2e and a conditional target of 415 mtCO2e by 2030. The updated NDC covers agriculture, forestry, and land-use change, energy, transportation and urban development, waste management, water resource and public health sectors. With support from the international community, Lao PDR seeks to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Climate Commitments
- Membership: member since 2019
- Country Engagement: Since joining the Partnership, Lao PDR has requested support related to improve policies, strategies, plans, and legislation; strengthen monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and verification (MRV systems); capacity building and knowledge products; and LT-LEDS development. With Partnership support, Lao PDR is developing an NDC Action Plan for the period 2021-2025 covering Agriculture, Forestry, and Land-Use Change, Energy, Transportation and Urban Development, Waste Management, Water Resource and Public health. In addition, partners have supported various activities, including the development of a readiness assessment for public works and transport sector to transition to low carbon and climate resilient development pathway and capacity development for government officers at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Department of Climate Change on Biennial Transparency Report preparation.
