Nauru
Nauru submitted its first Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2016, followed by an updated version in 2021. Most recently, in January 2026, Nauru submitted its NDC 3.0.
Mitigation targets and priorities include renewable energy comprising 50% of electricity generation by 2030 and 75% by 2035, achieving 30% energy savings by 2030, reaching a 20% electric vehicle share of the land transport fleet by 2035 and reducing methane emissions through improved waste management, recycling and composting.
Adaptation priorities include: climate resilient housing and infrastructure, coastal protection, strengthening water security, increasing food security, climate-informed public health systems and ecosystem restoration and biodiversity protection.
Through its NDC, Nauru aims to improve the quality of life of its citizens by fully aligning climate action with the Nauru National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) 2019–2030.
The NDC 3.0 process was led by the Department of Climate Change and National Resilience.

Climate Commitments
- Membership: member since 2019
- Country Engagement: Since joining the Partnership, Nauru has requested support related to the design or improve policies, strategies, plans, and legislation; and preparation of NDC-related projects and pipelines for investment. Through the Regional Pacific NDC Hub and in contribution to the NDC Partnership, partners have supported various activities including the development of Electrical Installation Guidelines, review of the Water and Sanitation Master Plan, and capacity building for vehicle shredding and exportation.
