Honduras
Honduras submitted its first Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2016, followed by an updated version in 2021. Most recently, in January 2026, Honduras submitted its NDC 3.0.
The country is setting an economy-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction of 19.6% below business-as-usual (BAU) by 2035, conditional on international support.
Mitigation priorities include reducing emissions from the energy sector through renewable energy deployment and energy efficiency, strengthening mitigation in forests and land use, reducing emissions from industrial processes and product use (IPPU), improving solid waste and wastewater management and implementing climate-smart agriculture practices.
Adaptation priorities include integrated water resource management and drought resilience, climate resilient agriculture and food security, ecosystem protection and restoration and strengthening the resilience of infrastructure and human settlements.
Honduras' NDC 3.0 process was led by the Secretariat of Natural Resources and Environment (SERNA).

Climate Commitments
- Membership: member since 2017
- Country Engagement: Since joining the Partnership, Honduras has requested support related to improving the quality and ambition of the NDC; LT-LEDS development and enhancement; strengthening monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and verification (MRV systems); and mainstreaming NDCs into national/subnational planning and budgeting. With Partnership support, Honduras is developing a roadmap to 2025 for the implementation of the NDC. In addition, partners have supported various activities, including an investment plan to implement the NDC, the development of new and improved LT- LEDS, and the enhancement of NDC ambition within the energy sector by developing baselines, diagnostics, scenarios and a strategy.
