Mali submitted its updated NDC in October 2021. The country aims to reduce its emissions by 31% for energy, 25% for agriculture, 39% for land use and forestry, and 31% for waste sectors by 2030 as compared to the business-as-usual scenario and make the economy green and resilient to climate change. The updated NDC covers the energy, agriculture, forestry and other land use, and waste sectors. The total estimated cost of the NDC implementation is estimated at USD 12.34 billion, including USD 4.34 billion for mitigation measures and USD 8 billion for adaptation. Mali is revising the NDC Action Plan and Investment Plan which will be aligned with the revised NDC.

  • Membership: member since 2017
  • Country Engagement: Since joining the Partnership, Mali has requested support related to designing or improving policies, strategies, plans, and legislation; mainstreaming NDCs into national/subnational planning and budgeting; improving the quality and ambition of the NDC; improving coordination and whole-of-society approach; designing or strengthening monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and verification (MRV systems); capacity building and knowledge products; preparation of NDC-related projects and pipelines for investment; mobilization of financial resources for NDC Investment projects; private sector engagement to implement NDCs; and LT-LEDS development and/or enhancement. With Partnership support, Mali has developed an NDC Action Plan for the period 2018-2020 covering 38 outcomes divided between Governance, Finance, M&E, Communication, Mitigation and Adaptation. In addition, partners have supported various activities, including the development of a program to mobilize funding from international climate funds, the development of an MRV system, and the development of a Climate Investment Plan.
