Central African Republic

The Central African Republic submitted its first Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2016, followed by an updated version in 2022. Most recently, in March 2026, the Central African Republic submitted its NDC 3.0.

In its NDC 3.0, the country commits to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 7–14% below the business-as-usual scenario unconditionally and up to 17% with international support, by 2035.

Mitigation priorities include expanding renewable energy and improving energy efficiency, strengthening forest conservation, restoration and sustainable land management, promoting climate-smart agriculture and sustainable livestock practices and improving waste management and reducing landfill emissions.

Adaptation priorities include strengthening food security and climate-resilient agriculture, improving water resource management and access to safe water, protecting ecosystems and restoring degraded landscapes and strengthening disaster risk reduction and climate resilience for vulnerable communities.

The NDC 3.0 process was led by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.
