Maldives
Maldives submitted first NDC in 2015 and an updated version in 2020. The updated NDC has an unconditional emissions reduction target of 10% and a conditional target of 24% reduction by 2030 as compared to the business-as-usual scenario. In addition to major mitigation sectors such as energy and waste, the NDC includes focused measures for adaptation in the agriculture and food security, infrastructure, public health, water security, coastal protection and coral reef biodiversity sectors. Maldives presented the ‘Climate Smart Resilient Islands Initiative’ as a replicable and sustainable development model for SIDS and the country also strives to achieve net-zero by 2030. An NDC Implementation Plan has been developed at ministerial level to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the actions proposed in the NDC and the country has also developed the National Strategic Framework to Mobilize International Climate Finance to Address Climate Change in the Maldives (2020-2024) which outlines key project priorities to meet NDC targets and adaptation goals.
