GET.invest is a European programme that mobilises investment in clean energy in developing countries. Get.invest supports project developers and companies towards investment readiness and links them with financiers. In collaboration with many stakeholders in the sector, Get.invest also provides a range of other services to complement this effort. GET.invest aims to substantially increase the volume and pace of investment, to contribute to building sustainable energy markets, and to thus help meet the twin challenge of sustainable energy and climate change.

Get.invest has two advisory facilities that are open year-round to accommodate requests:

  • The GET.invest Finance Catalyst provides bespoke advisory support to later-stage clean energy projects and companies through a team of independent experts
  • The GET.invest Finance Readiness Support exclusively assists early-stage, locally-owned and managed companies in becoming ready for their first formal investment
Eligibility Criteria

Support is available to projects and companies that meet the following minimum criteria:

Investment size*
Get.invest's tailored advisory facilities are designed to accommodate both large-scale and smaller projects and companies. Minimum investment size for companies is 500,000 EUR and minimum investment size for projects is 5,000,000 EUR. Additionally, projects applying for project financing will need to prove an advanced stage of development via the upload of additional documentation, including but not limited to land use rights, studies, licenses/permits, draft PPAs/off-taker agreements, and financial models.

Focus on clean energy solutions and business models
The primary investment component of the project or company must relate to clean energy or energy efficiency. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Electricity generation, transmission and distribution for grid-connected power, as well as mini-grids;
  • Solar-powered stand-alone systems and off-grid appliances, including for productive uses;
  • Clean cooking, but excluding production and trading of LPG for cooking;
  • Green hydrogen/PtX and derivatives;
  • Energy storage solutions;
  • Energy efficient appliances and energy efficiency for commercial or industrial application;
  • E-mobility;
  • Projects or companies focused on clean energy manufacturing, hardware assembly or value addition e.g. solar panels, electric vehicles, appliances, cookstoves;
  • The use or production of biofuels will be considered if there are no major land-use conflicts (incl. with regards to food production);
  • While funds and financing instruments are generally not considered eligible, financing structures to pool or bundle concrete individual investments can be considered.

Revenue generating*
Companies: Only companies that have generated a minimum of 100,000 EUR in revenue over the last 24 months will be considered. This will be verified by the submission of financial statements and/or audited financial accounts.

Projects: Only projects that are conceptualised or that can be re-structured as revenue-generating will be considered.

Location
Applicants must be located in (or investment sought to be deployed in) sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, or the Pacific region.

Focus on private sector
Eligible applicants include private sector developers and companies, parastatal companies and governments. Ultimately, applications will need to demonstrate significant private-sector ownership or intended involvement to allow for financing with debt or equity, possibly combined with other funding such as grants or public contributions. Such private sector engagement can also be developed during the advisory support, e.g. in case projects are initially proposed by public actors.

Applicants seeking grants exclusively are ineligible. While Get.invest can support requests with a grant component, they do not support projects or companies that solely rely on grant funding. As part of Get.invest advisory, they validate the amount and type of funding sought and engage with clients to develop a comprehensive and long-term investment strategy that caters to their needs and potential.

*Eligibility criteria for applications received from Get.invest's Country Window countries might differ. Please reach out to Get.invest for the latest information.
