Under Article 13 of the Paris Agreement, Parties are required to track the progress they make toward implementing and achieving their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) using both quantitative and qualitative information. The information needed to track this progress is further defined in the Modalities, Procedures and Guidelines (MPGs) as a part of the Biennial Transparency Report (BTR), the new reporting requirement, which Parties are expected to submit no later than the 31st of December 2024.
This online event focused on experiences and resources for addressing the reporting requirement of the chapter III of the MPGs: Information necessary to track progress made in implementing and achieving nationally determined contributions under Article 4 of the Paris Agreement. During the event, participants became familiar with the requirement to compile this part of the Biennial Transparency Report, countries shared their challenges and experiences in addressing this reporting requirement. FAO launched the newly developed NDC Tracking tool, an excel-based easy-to-use instrument to support countries in collecting the information required to address the elements of section III of the MPGs.
