The Gender and Land Rights Database (GLRD) was launched by FAO in 2010 to highlight the major political, legal and cultural factors that influence the realisation of women’s land rights throughout the world. The GLRD serves as hub of information for policy makers and advocates of women’s land rights that provides relevant arguments and information about support processes that aim for more gender-equitable land tenure. The GLRD has three main sections; country profiles, gender and land-related statistics, and the legal assessment tool (LAT). Country profiles are regularly updated and provide key facts about gender and land rights in constitutions, family law, succession law, land law, customary and religious law as well as policies and program in 83 different countries. Gender disaggregated land-related statistics are shown in the interactive map which is easily navigated by selection of indicators in scroll-down menu, including distribution of landholders by sex and the incidence of landowners by sex, among others. The LAT analyses national legal frameworks across 30 legal indicators to helps visualise the legal intricacies surrounding men and women’s access to land and identify areas where legal reform is needed.
