This paper lays the foundation for an exploration between stakeholders about why and how frameworks for just energy transitions should be integrated into Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). It outlines a rationale for why this is critical and is intended to trigger constructive discussions about what is needed to deliver just energy transitions that result in a global just energy transformation.
The discussions supported by this paper are intended to feed into the development of guidance and recommendations to support governments to effectively integrate just energy transition in their new NDCs covering the period up to 2035. These need to be submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) by the end of 2025.
The paper is also intended to underpin future discussions among participating members of the Alliance for Just Energy Transformation (AJET).
