FONTAGRO is a unique sustainable co-financing mechanism for the development of agricultural technology in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spain, and establishes a forum for the discussion of priority issues of technological innovation.
FONTAGRO is an internationally recognized mechanism of cooperation for strengthening sustainable agrifood and agribusiness innovation among member countries.
FONTAGRO is to contribute to the innovation of family farming through cooperation among member countries, while promoting competitiveness and food security based on standards of equity and sustainability.
Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and 15 countries (i.e. Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Spain, Uruguay, Venezuela).

FONTAGRO (Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology) is an alliance of 15 countries established to support agricultural innovation in Latin America and the Caribbean, by allocating non-reimbursable funds.
FONTAGRO’s member countries are Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Spain, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
FONTAGRO’s sponsoring institutions are the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA). It also has strategic alliances with other international agencies such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), CGIAR, the Ministry for Primary Industries and the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) of New Zealand.
FONTAGRO's resources, together with other contributions from organizations related to its mission, are used to cofinance, competitively and/or by consensus, original agricultural and agri-food research and innovation activities; which have a positive effect on reducing poverty, increasing productivity, competitiveness, and sustainable management of natural resources.
FONTAGRO expands the base of activities in the region with the support of regional public-private cooperation platforms between countries and organizations, strengthening the synergies in agricultural research and innovation.
