Ford Foundation believes in the inherent dignity of all people. But around the world, too many people are excluded from the political, economic, and social institutions that shape their lives.

In addressing this reality, Ford is guided by a vision of social justice—a world in which all individuals, communities, and peoples work toward the protection and full expression of their human rights; are active participants in the decisions that affect them; share equitably in the knowledge, wealth, and resources of society; and are free to achieve their full potential.

Across eight decades, Ford's mission has been to reduce poverty and injustice, strengthen democratic values, promote international cooperation, and advance human achievement.

Eligibility Criteria
The Ford Foundation believes that justice begins where inequality ends. They support organizations that address the underlying drivers of inequality and align with our programmatic work around the world. Every year, the organization awards roughly 1,500 grants to institutions with transformative ideas and scalable solutions with the aim of achieving the greatest impact. They also award a limited number of grants to individuals, primarily through nomination for fellowships, building on a legacy of investing in leaders. While the majority of grants are identified by the foundation, proposals that fit within specified lines of work are also welcome. Each program has its own strategy and comprehensive selection process.
