The fund contributes to a resilient and water-secure Asia and the Pacific by financing innovative project designs, building capacity to better manage climate and water- related risks, strengthening sector governance, and addressing the water–food security nexus.

Project implementation, supervision, and monitoring will be conducted by user departments following ADB’s standard policies, procedures, and guidelines.
The ADB WFPF Steering Committee makes recommendations on fund proposals.
Project proposals should: (a) be consistent with ADB's Water for All Policy; (b) contribute significantly to WFPF target; (c) introduce innovative solutions; (d) adopt a participatory approach; (e) have high demonstration value in the sector; (f) have good potential for replication in the country and/or region; and (g) link with the DMC's Country Partnership Strategy and results frameworks.
