Iraq

Overview

Iraq submitted its first NDC in 2022. The country commits to a conditional emissions reduction target of 15% by 2030. The NDC emphasizes emission reduction for key energy consuming sectors including oil, electricity, gas, and transport as well as other sectors such as non-oil industry, agriculture, solid wastes, and the residential sector. In addition to mitigation targets, the NDC identifies water resources, agriculture, health, natural systems and forests, coastal areas and sea level rise, sewage and waste, climate risk, higher education, scientific research, science, and technology, energy, tourism and world heritage the sectors most vulnerable to climate change for which adaptation plans and measures are needed.  The estimated cost of achieving the conditional mitigation target is USD 100 billion by 2030.
