Statement on NDC 3.0 Submission Deadline

Monday’s deadline for submitting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs 3.0) is a reminder of the urgent need for ambitious climate action. While it is an important reminder, delivering high-quality, ambitious NDCs requires a coordinated approach that engages all levels of government and society, along with dedicated time and resources.

Though many countries have yet to submit their NDC 3.0, nearly 180 countries are expected to submit this year, with almost 70 already receiving support from the Partnership for their development. The NDC Partnership aims to ensure countries receive the support they need to deliver high-quality, ambitious NDCs and implement their mitigation and adaptation priorities.

NDC Partnership Co-Chair representatives Ana Toni, Secretary for Climate Change in the Ministry of Environment and Climate of Brazil, and Ole Thonke, Undersecretary for Development Policy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, issued a joint statement today, saying: “Today’s milestone for the delivery of NDCs 3.0 underscores the urgent need for greater commitment. For that reason, we congratulate all countries that have put forward their NDC 3.0 and remain committed to mobilizing state-of-the-art support to those countries in which the NDC 3.0 is still being prepared. A high-quality and ambitious NDC 3.0 sends a strong message about the development pathway of the country, serving as a signal of steadfast commitment to action to partners and investors. As a global coalition, the NDC Partnership is in an unmatched position to collectively support countries’ climate action that delivers economic and social transformation for all.”

Partnership support remains available through the Global Call for NDCs 3.0 & LT-LEDS, which facilitates access to expertise and resources for countries to develop NDCs 3.0
