New GCBC Accelerator Opens Applications to Strengthen Climate Finance Capacity

Emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs) will require an estimated USD 2.4 trillion annually by 2030 to strengthen resilience and advance the global shift to net zero through actions aligned with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

These investments can come from both domestic and international sources, as local and global financial institutions respond to viable opportunities. But targeted tools, training and resources remain essential to unlocking that potential.

To address this need, the NDC Partnership is supporting countries’ efforts to mobilize finance for NDC-aligned projects. With NDC Partnership support, countries are actively developing funder-ready climate project pipelines, connecting capital seekers with potential investors and support providers to help them refine their projects. Colombia, Laos, Maldives, Morocco, Nigeria and Uganda, piloting the NDC Partnership’s “Project Status Checklist” is supporting governments and developers to structure project proposals that meet funder requirements and attract investment. In Francophone Africa, the NDC Partnership recently concluded a regional workshop series helping 19 countries build technical capacity and strengthen collaboration on adaptation finance.

Also working to expand climate finance capacity, the Global Capacity Building Coalition (GCBC) has launched a new global initiative to support high-impact capacity-building efforts in climate finance across EMDEs.

The GCBC Accelerator provides selected initiatives with tailored support, including expert advisory, communications and marketing, partnership facilitation and operational assistance. By scaling proven models, the program aims to unlock new opportunities and catalyze investment in climate action.

Applications are open to academic institutions, education and training providers, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other entities. Specific programs or projects focused on capacity building are also eligible.

Applications are open through 4 July 2025. Learn more about the GCBC Accelerator and how to apply here.
