In response to calls from businesses for greater clarity from governments on the use of carbon credits as part of corporate decarbonisation plans, the Coalition has issued a clear set of Shared Principles on the voluntary use of high-integrity carbon credits to provide consistency in approach across jurisdictions.
The Shared Principles give businesses the confidence they need to invest in a proven but underused financing tool and continue to strengthen and scale carbon markets.
The Shared Principles are backed by multiple governments, including France, Panama, Kenya, Singapore, and the UK. Each of these countries has agreed to explore and develop, or continue pursuing, national guidance, incentives, policy or regulations aligned with the Shared Principles, with the aim to align private sector action with national and global climate goals.
