Kausal Paths works best when coupled with Kausal Watch, Kausal's data platform for climate plans.
Kausal Paths is an open source, state-of-the-art product for assessing possible climate actions and their emissions, costs, health and other impacts. It is a scenario tool for developing and updating climate or sustainability action plans and targets for key indicators. It works seamlessly with the rest of the Kausal Platform including the Kausal Watch, which is designed for monitoring, managing, and communicating about sustainability actions in cities and other regional authorities. Once you have identified, prioritized, and decided about actions and targets with Kausal Paths, you can then import the data on the actions and indicators to Kausal Watch for implementation. You can also use Kausal Paths independently.
The platform includes a public user interface, which all the stakeholders can browse on the internet. The public UI is customized to have the look and feel of the city and is typically published on the city’s web domain. The users can see climate emissions and their trends of different sectors and subsectors, based on a classification the municipality can choose. They can select between scenarios, which have different combinations of actions and input assumptions, and compare the outcomes to the targets that have been set by the municipality. They can also adjust the selections themselves, thus creating new scenarios to be considered. All changes in the input values are recalculated instantly, so you can easily toggle between options and compare scenarios. The data platform is the master version of all the actions, indicators, and calculation nodes that are parts of the scenario model.
