Energy modelling tools use relevant data to explore a wider variety of future scenarios for a country’s energy transition. This helps policymakers select the most cost-effective, financially viable, environmentally sustainable, and climate-resilient projects for which to seek investment support. Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) curates a suite of open-source modelling tools and frameworks that support the energy planning process for the climate transition in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). These tools cover everything from demand forecasting, electrification master planning, system capacity expansion, energy-land-water nexus, climate finance identification, financial planning and project appraisal. Certain common design features of CCG’s modelling ecosystem facilitate uptake in a wide variety of country contexts.
- Easy to access. All the models are opensource, and freely available, removing software costs and licensing barriers.
- Easy to use. No knowledge of coding is required as models operate via user-friendly Excel-based interfaces.
- Fast results. Off the shelf, Starter Data Kits containing the basic data needed to run zero-order modelling scenarios in over 60 LMICs are available, allowing rapid generation of preliminary results that can subsequently be refined.
