One of the barriers to achieving a clean energy transition in the Global South is that policy and planning teams in government do not always have the knowledge or skills they need to analyse data and produce scenarios using energy modelling tools. Often external consultants are hired to provide this analysis but that fails to create a legacy of embedded knowledge within the country. Climate Compatible Growth (CCG) overcomes this barrier by providing free training and support to low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). CCG's capacity building services are designed to gradually build and sustain levels of competence in energy modelling, allowing practitioners to confidently apply the tools in their professional roles. Using a variety of approaches, CCG trains policymakers, advisors and academics, catering for both midcareer professionals and academics.
- E-learning. CCG's Open Learn Collection provides self-administered online learning through a suite of courses that provide basic competence in a variety of transition modelling tools, receiving more than 400,000 downloads.
- F2F training. CCG's Energy Modelling Platform provides regional, and at times national, in-person training events that allow participants to build competence through application of modelling to a live policy issue.
- Coaching. CCG's Bootcamps provide ongoing on-the-job support for trainees to apply their skills to the development of concrete plans and analytics, and supports academics to teach modelling at local universities.
