COP30: Tracking Locally Led Climate Finance
Climate finance is essential to support the implementation of NDCs, where communities on the frontlines of climate change require locally led interventions to adapt to and mitigate its impacts. Yet, in practice, tracking and reporting flows of climate finance remain fragmented, opaque, and often inaccessible to local actors. Communities in West and East Africa face persistent barriers to accessing resources, while governments and development partners struggle with limited transparency and alignment in reporting systems.
This year, Tree Aid and the Alliance Bioversity - CIAT and CGIAR jointly convened a series of workshops in Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia and Kenya with local partners, civil society, donors, accredited entities and government representatives to better understand these barriers. The findings highlight challenges felt across the board in alignment of reporting requirements and timelines. As a result of these findings, Tree and the Alliance Bioversity – CIAT and CGIAR have developed a guidance doc, that provides a set of recommendations on what can be done to better improve such systems and how to implement them. This event will convene diverse stakeholders to discuss the findings, share experiences, and identify pathways to align climate finance tracking with NDC targets, ensuring that resources flow effectively to local level.
