COP29: Lessons on innovative solutions for financing and NDC Implementation to enhance resilience of livelihoods at community level
The main objective of the event is to share lessons learned on developing innovative solutions for implementing NDC across different sectors and at the sub-national level to enhance the resilience of communities. In this side event, Kenya in collaboration with other countries (Mozambique, Costa Rica, Japan) and other institutions will display how agroforestry can contribute to NDC target by promoting innovative practices in agroforestry development including through (1) inclusive national strategy formulation, (2) gender/social inclusions, (3) monitoring and information management and (4) carbon market access and among others. Speakers from Kenya including government representatives, development partners, private sector as well as non-government organizations which have been undertaking innovative practices which brought about huge impacts on the ground. The event will also showcase innovative solutions for financing locally-led climate actions and share the results of the county green finance assessment conducted in Kenya with a focus on actionable insights on what the potential, opportunities, and challenges exist at the subnational government levels in terms of the financing of green projects and assets. The event intends to review learnings on the county green finance assessment for the 10 pilot counties in Kenya; postulate strategies that can increase fiscal autonomy and financial flexibility for sub-national governments on diversifying internal revenue streams and attracting green finance investments; and showcase sub-national green project prototypes and attract suitable green finance.
