Overview

The United Republic of Tanzania submitted its INDC in 2015 and an updated version its NDC in 2021. The updated NDC commits to reducing emissions by between 30-35% by 2030 compared to the business-as-usual scenario. The updated NDC covers mitigation actions related to energy, transport, forestry, waste management as well as adaptation actions related to agriculture, livestock, forestry, energy, coastal, marine environments and fisheries, water sanitation and hygiene, tourism, land use and human settlements development, health, infrastructure, disaster risk reduction, and other cross-cutting areas. The total estimated cost of NDC implementation is USD 19.2 billion. The United Republic of Tanzania has the national goal of guaranteeing access to clean and safe water for all by 2030. The country has also developed a draft NDC Implementation Plan which captures prioritized actions per sector and their respective costs in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar.

Partnership Engagement
  • Membership: member since 2022
  • Country Engagement: Since joining the Partnership, the United Republic of Tanzania has requested support related to priority actions for NDC stock take, finalization of the NDC Implementation Plan, and the deployment of an NDC Partnership In-Country Facilitator and a Climate Finance advisor. In addition, a pre-scoping mission was conducted jointly with the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation in 2023.
