Irene Mwaura

Irene is the Country Engagement Specialist for Anglophone-Africa for the NDC Partnership Support Unit.

Prior to joining the NDC partnership, Irene worked with WWF Kenya National Office in the Climate and Energy program. In this role, she supported evidence based policy advocacy at national and county level by engaging state and non-state actors, implemented and supported adaptation interventions to enhance resilience of communities to climate change and, promoted renewable energy solutions to enhance human wellbeing and address conservation challenges such as Human Wildlife Conflict. She coordinated program specific partnership engagement and strengthening at national and subnational level in addition to resource mobilization.

Irene also served as a CSO observer for the Climate Investment Fund (CIF) representing Africa/Middle East region between 2015-2022.

She is a Certified Expert in Climate and Renewable Energy Finance (CECRF) and a Commonwealth Fellow on sustainable energy and climate resilience. Her educational background is on environmental Science.

Irene’s areas of interest include: NDC, Climate finance, Nature-Based Solutions and climate-biodiversity nexus.
