Irene Mwaura

Irene Mwaura is the Country Engagement Specialist for Anglophone Africa at the NDC Partnership Support Unit and is based in Bonn, Germany. Irene engages with targeted countries in the region on their climate and NDC processes.  

With nearly 13 years of experience, Irene has led the implementation of energy and climate adaptation projects and facilitated evidence-based policy advocacy at the national and county levels in Kenya, where she engaged both state and non-state actors to influence conservation. Before joining the NDC Partnership, Irene worked with the World Wide Fund for Nature Kenya (WWF-Kenya), where she coordinated the Climate and Energy Program portfolio. Additionally, she served as a Civil Society Observer for the Climate Investment Fund (CIF), representing the Africa/Middle East region from 2015 to 2022. Her expertise includes policy advocacy, the nature-climate nexus, program design and management, and partnership coordination.  

Irene is a Certified Expert in Climate and Renewable Energy Finance (CECRF) and a Commonwealth Fellow in sustainable energy and climate resilience. She has a background in environmental science.
