Cherif Mohamed Habib Kane
Mauritania In-Country Facilitator
Cherif Mohamed Habib Kane is the NDC Partnership In-Country Facilitator for Mauritania and is embedded within the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development. He has over 18 years professional work experience, including ten years with UNDP at the national and international level. He first started as team leader of the environment and energy unit at UNDP Mauritania where he managed a portfolio of six programmes and projects on different thematic areas such as climate change (both mitigation and adaptation), poverty environment nexus, biodiversity, sound management of chemicals, sustainable energy, integrated management of water resource. Cherif then joined the UNDP and UNEP joint Programme “Poverty and Environment Initiative” (PEI) as Programme Specialist in charge of Burkina, Mali and Mauritania PEI projects. Before joining UNDP, he has worked on integrated management of desert locusts. Kane is a holder of a Ph. D in Agriculture attained from Kenyatta University of Nairobi.
