Raising Ambition through Partnership: Fossil Fuel Phase-Out Technical Session with BOGA
[RESCHEDULED FROM 27 MARCH TO 9 APRIL]
This webinar series highlights successful examples of mitigation and adaptation ambition-raising efforts while promoting exchange and learning to scale impact across the NDC Partnership.
The outcomes of the first Global Stocktake (GST) highlighted the urgency of transitioning away from fossil fuel dependency to align with the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C goal, emphasizing the critical role of this decade in achieving meaningful reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Building on this momentum, COP29 outcomes reinforced the call for strengthened NDCs that prioritize clean energy systems and fossil fuel phase-down strategies.
Meeting the Paris Agreement goals while avoiding an unnecessarily abrupt and disruptive transition away from fossil fuels requires that governments plan for a managed phase-out of fossil fuel production. The NDCs 3.0, due to be submitted in 2025, reflect a critical opportunity for governments to integrate all sectors and gases in their climate ambitions, while also mobilizing both public and private resources to finance the transformational change required ahead.
This is the second of two webinars in partnership with the Beyond Oil and Gas Alliance (BOGA), which will convene partner institutions and countries to explore how NDCs 3.0 can incorporate ambitious and actionable pathways for addressing fossil fuel phase-out. This webinar will bring together the wider research community to provide a technical perspective on the transition from fossil fuels.
