COP29: NDCs 3.0 and Beyond — Reflecting National Needs and Priorities in Ambitious and Implementable Climate Action
This side event will provide a real-time gauge of where the world stands on NDC ambition and expectations for 2025 amidst a deeply fractured global landscape.
With strong political momentum and high expectations for the third round of NDCs, COP29 serves as a critical moment to assess where the world stands on NDC ambition and how countries plan to take this forward in 2025. Amidst a backdrop of geo-political tensions, divisions both between and within countries, and the ‘super-year’ of elections, countries are grappling with critical decisions that will make or break our ability as an international community to meet the Paris Agreement goals and keep warming below 1.5°C.
This side event will provide a real-time gauge of where the world stands on NDC ambition and expectations for 2025 amidst a deeply fractured global landscape. Discussions will highlight how countries are leveraging their politically-backed and sovereign climate plans to not only meet their national climate targets but also drive sustainable development and reduce social and economic inequalities - all within the context of polarized international relations, ongoing conflicts, humanitarian crises, decreased ODA, and mounting global and regional challenges.
The multistakeholder nature of these discussions will showcase the diverse perspectives, innovative solutions, and continued commitment to keep 1.5°C within reach and attain the global goals on sustainable development.
