COP29 NDC Partnership Flagship Finance Event: Leveraging a Collaborative Public-Private Approach to Finance Ambitious NDCs
This event will explore the transformational impact of deep collaboration across public and private sectors to finance the implementation of NDCs, enabling the needed ambition to achieve the Paris Agreement Goals.
The results of the first Global Stocktake highlight the urgent need to close the NDC ambition and implementation gaps to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. Around US$ 2.4 trillion of investments will be needed annually by 2030 in emerging markets and developing countries outside China to address priorities of just energy transition, adaptation and resilience, loss and damage, and the conservation and restoration of nature. This represents a four-fold increase from current levels devoted to these areas1. Strong engagement and a coordinated approach between public and private sectors will be essential to mobilize climate finance at speed and scale for the implementation of ambitious NDCs 3.0.
This event will explore the transformational impact of deep collaboration across public and private sectors to finance the implementation of NDCs, enabling the needed ambition to achieve the Paris Agreement Goals. The collaborative model of the NDC Partnership, championed by more than 200 members, is anchored on a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, leveraging the commitment, capacities, and technical and financial resources from a wide range of stakeholders. By leveraging our coalition, the Partnership amplifies the impact of our membership, continuously increasing our support to countries to adapt to and mitigate climate change and foster more equitable and sustainable development.
Members and key partners will make brief interventions, highlighting the urgent need for collective action and the role(s) of public and private sectors in supporting the transition to a low carbon and climate resilient economy. The NDC Partnership Global Director will moderate the event, posing a single guiding question to each speaker to frame the discussion and focus interventions. Ministers, high-level officials, and heads of public and private organizations will be invited to highlight successful experiences and pathways to drive the mobilization of finance at scale, reiterating that by acting together, we achieve more.
