In this session, USAID and partners will discuss lessons and key milestones in supporting partner countries to increase their climate ambition and deliver high-impact results. The session will examine how global partnerships - including the NDC Partnership and USAID’s Comprehensive Action for Climate Change Initiative - are supporting countries to implement ambitious climate commitments and draw out successful models of collaboration at national and local levels. This session will focus on the key content of the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) as a critical component of Vietnam’s clean energy transition, highlighting the 7-year collaboration between USAID and the Government of Vietnam that culminated in the recent decree. Discussions will center on the technical assistance provided by USAID since 2017, which has been instrumental in designing and finalizing the DPPA. Stakeholders will delve into specific aspects of the DPPA, including its models, interested participants, the market size, and the next steps. Additionally, participants will explore opportunities for capacity building and stakeholder engagement to enhance collaboration among government, private sector, and communities in the effective execution of the DPPA. By addressing these topics, the session aims to foster a deeper understanding of how the DPPA can drive Vietnam’s clean energy ambitions and support its commitment to climate action. In supporting countries to develop policies that drive ambitious climate action, USAID, through CACCI and Jamaica will present on how new climate change legislation will In Jamaica will enable long term visions for decarbonization, guide markets in aligning with national climate objectives and set institutional mandates for enhancing and implementing ambitious national climate change policies.
