COP28: Launch of the Partnership on Water-Resilient Food Systems
The Earth’s water and agrifood systems are inextricably linked, with interdependencies ranging from soil health, water cycles to food production, processing and transportation. Despite the clear link between water and food systems, water is largely absent from the international discussions on the future of food systems in a context of climate change. COP28 aims to bridge the silos between both sectors by holding the first-ever COP ministerial dialogue on building water-resilient food systems. Accompanying this dialogue, the COP28 Presidency will launch a two-year partnership hosted by the UNFCCC’s Climate-Resilient Food Systems (CRFS) Alliance. The partnership consists of key international organization working at the nexus of water and food systems, to support the countries and non-state actors in integrating both water and agriculture to enhance their national climate plans and deliver on their commitments. This event will provide the platform for this Partnership and its organizations to present their objectives, expected outcomes, and workplan as well as showcase key initiatives that could be leveraged to support countries and other stakeholders in building water-resilient food systems.
