COP28: Climate Change Issues in the Kyrgyz Republic and Mitigation/Adaptation Development Projects
Organized by: Climate Finance Center under the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic (CFC), and Group of Mountain Partnership
The Kyrgyz Republic is one of the vulnerable countries to climate change. In Kyrgyzstan, for 20 years the average temperature has increased from 4.8°C to 6°C. In accordance with the most pessimistic forecasts, by the end of this century the average temperature may increase by 8°C from today. Over the past 30 years, about 20-30% of the country's glaciers have melted. Kyrgyzstan risks losing up to 80% of its glaciers by the end of this century as specified by the most negative scenario. In order to combat the challenges of climate change, by 2030 Kyrgyzstan commits to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15.97% following the “Business as Usual” scenario and by 43.62% with the international support as given in the updated NDC. To achieve the intended goals, the NDC Implementation Plan was developed where the priority areas for mitigation and adaptation were set up as well as approximate necessary financial calculations. Based on these documents, the CFC identified key promising areas for the development and implementation of joint projects with MDBs, international development partners and climate funds. The objective of the event: The main objective of the event is to attract the attention of MDBs, international development partners and climate funds to key promising areas of joint mitigation and adaptation projects in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Expected results:
- awareness and interest of MDBs, international development partners and climate funds in the implementation of joint mitigation and adaptation projects in the Kyrgyz Republic;
- building up with possible potential partners;
- awareness of all participants about the problems due to climate change in the Kyrgyz Republic and the activities taken to achieve the goals of the NDC.
