This session aims to address how the second NDC update cycle (2024-2025) needs to align with LTLEDs and net-zero pledges and align with the IPCC recommended 1.5°C trajectories. Furthermore, this second update cycle needs to take stock of how enabling policies support implementation of current NDCs and are impacting historical GHG emission reductions and develop supportive just transition frameworks and stakeholder engagement processes. Such an approach will create a good basis to implement the enhanced transparency framework and attract financial support for conditional NDC commitments. The session will contain a regional overview of current NDC commitments and their implementation, including a focus on enabling policies, resource mobilization, systems transformations across critical sectors, just energy transitions and international and regional cooperation.

This presentation will be the basis for a panel discussion of national experts and stakeholders who are actively involved in NDC, LT-LEDS and net-zero implementation and development of the second round of NDCs. The panel will also discuss challenges, barriers and learnings from the first round of NDCs and showcase success stories.
