ACS2 Side Event: Raising Ambition in NDC 3.0: Advancing Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in Climate Action

Th Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) initiative is currently being implemented in Rwanda, Burkina Faso, and Mexico, where GGGI is supporting governments to embed inclusivity into their climate goals. Under the African Union Green Recovery Action Plan (AU GRAP)—co-funded by GGGI and Global Affairs Canada—special emphasis is placed on gender-responsive climate finance to address the dual challenges of post-COVID recovery and climate change.
A key innovation of this initiative is the development of the Green Growth Index, the GESI Index and Simulation Tool. These tools are designed to assess, prioritize, and simulate the impacts of Rwanda’s mitigation and adaptation measures on diverse social groups, with a particular focus on women, youth, and vulnerable communities.
This side event will showcase the collaborative efforts and share practical insights on integrating GESI into national climate planning frameworks, offering a model for replication across Africa and beyond.
