Overview
Iceland submitted its first Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2016, followed by an updated version in 2021. In September 2025, Iceland submitted its 2035 NDC.
 
In its latest NDC, the country pledges to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 41% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels, in sectors under the EU Effort Sharing Regulation — including road transport, energy, fisheries, product use, agriculture and waste management. 
 
Iceland is also committed to an annual net reduction of 400–500 kiltonnes CO2e from land use change and forestry (LULUCF) by 2035 compared to 2025 levels.
