Ugandan Financial Sector to Strengthen Climate Resilience Under EIB Global Partnership with Bank of Uganda

21 Oct. 2026, Kampala, Uganda — To unlock the investment its climate priorities require, Uganda is strengthening how its banks and financial institutions assess and manage climate risk. The Bank of Uganda and EIB Global, the international development arm of the European Investment Bank Group, have signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen how the Ugandan financial sector identifies, manages and reports climate-related risks.

The technical assistance will enable the Bank of Uganda develop a roadmap for greening the financial sector, improve climate-risk supervision and disclosure and implement the country’s National Green Taxonomy, which provides a common definition of environmentally sustainable economic activities.

The support is provided through the EIB Group’s Greening Financial Systems technical assistance programme, managed by EIB Advisory. The programme is financed by the German and Luxembourg governments through the Greening Financial Systems Fund.
