New Energy Transition Finance Initiative for Southeast Asia

23 Oct. 2026, Sydney, Australia — Government representatives from Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam met global institutional investors and climate finance experts in Sydney as part of a new investor peer network that addresses the barriers large investors face in deploying capital within the region. Convened by the Australian Government, the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC), the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change (AIGCC) and the NDC Partnership, the network supports the COP31 finance agenda and the Baku to Belém Roadmap to USD 1.3 Trillion.

Discussions highlighted the importance of policy stability, regional aggregation of both smaller distributed energy and utility-scale projects and more consistent documentation of project fundamentals to speed up investment decisions in less familiar markets. Over the coming weeks, the network will identify a lead country for deeper work on priority investment bottlenecks, followed by technical workshops with participating countries and investors.
