Armenia's Push for Clean Energy and Sustainable Development

Recognizing the urgency of climate action, Armenia is accelerating efforts to implement its NDC, with a focus on strengthening climate resilience in its most vulnerable sectors. A major pillar of Armenia’s mitigation strategy is expanding renewable energy, aiming for solar to make up at least 15% of total energy production by 2030 and scaling up wind power to 500 MW. With strong implementation planning and policy incentives, Armenia has already made significant progress, with solar reaching 13% of total energy production by 2024 and renewables at 32.3% of total use.

Among the country’s most notable achievements is the Masrik-1 Solar Facility, developed through a public-private partnership with financing from international institutions. With a 62 MW capacity, 114,984 solar panels and the potential to power more than 20,000 homes, Masrik-1 is a major step forward for Armenia’s energy transition. The project demonstrates Armenia’s solar potential while creating jobs, stimulating investment and preventing more than 54,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
