Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI)

The Sustainable Markets Initiative has convened subject matter experts from across the public and private sectors along with non-governmental organisations to deliver climate-based training that can help support government officials responsible for delivering climate-related projects and implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). This training programme is free and there are no associated costs.

The training programme outlines best practice in a varied and wide-ranging number of areas, encompassing topics that include energy transition, finance, insurance, contracting and procurement, local communities and indigenous rights, nature-based solutions, and many others.

The training programme has been designed for participants to enhance their understanding of climate fundamentals and provides sector insights and technical knowledge supported with real-world case studies.

The training programme, starting April 2024, will be delivered through a series of webinars by expert speakers from the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Task Forces including Aon, Ashurst, Clifford Chance, DLA Piper, The Energy Institute, EY, Lloyd’s of London, Mishcon de Reya, Pinsent Masons, The Resilient Water Accelerator (RWA), Type One Energy and Water Aid as well other organisations such as Amini, 3Ci, The Commonwealth Secretariat, Glasgow City Council, The Business and Human Rights Committee of the International Bar Association, The Clean Air Task Force, Legal Response International, Tree Global, The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and WSP. Once registered, participants will be able to access training modules and materials through a dedicated online platform.

This training course is structured to support practitioners of all levels of experience and expertise and will include modules in respect of the topics detailed to the left. The programme overview consists of the following:
