The Republic of Mauritius aims to position itself proactively in the international climate landscape. In this context, the Government of the Republic of Mauritius is hosting a 3-day regional peer-to-peer exchange on NDC Implementation Readiness, co-organized with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the NDC Partnership, the Center for Access to Climate Finance and contributions from the Commonwealth Secretariat through its Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub, as well as technical support from Climate Analytics, the Global Capacity Building Coalition, the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the Mitigation Action Facility, the NAP Global Network, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, the UNFCCC Regional Collaboration Centers (RCCs), the World Bank and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

The forum focuses on climate finance mechanisms with the following objectives:

  • Knowledge exchange: Providing a strategic platform for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to connect, collaborate and co-develop effective strategies for NDC 3.0 implementation and broaden perspectives by incorporating lessons learned from SIDS in other regions
  • NDC implementation and finance: Accelerating the implementation of NDCs while addressing approaches to unlock the financial resources needed
  • Tailored solutions: Group discussions that provide tailored solutions reflecting shared vulnerabilities, development pathways and resilience goals
  • Leveraging international expertise: Identifying innovative financing mechanisms and accelerating access to climate finance

The forum brings together government representatives, national public entities, international agencies and private sector stakeholders. The discussions will span a broad range of topics linked to NDC implementation, including adaptation and resilience, country-led programmatic approaches, blended climate finance mechanisms, private sector engagement, public-private partnerships, Article 6 and carbon markets, technological solutions for SIDS, renewable energies, energy efficiency in buildings, sustainable mobility, nature-based solutions, green and blue jobs and crosscutting themes such as gender, youth and vulnerable groups, among others.
