Countries' Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) map efforts to reduce national emissions, adapt to the impacts of climate change and contribute to achieving sustainable development under the Paris Agreement. Countries must submit NDCs every five years, ensuring progression and the highest possible ambition.

Similarly, National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) are strategic frameworks that help countries identify and address their medium- and long-term adaptation needs to climate change, reduce vulnerability by building adaptive capacity and resilience and facilitate the integration of climate change adaptation.

The first Global Stocktake (2023) highlighted that current mitigation efforts remain insufficient to meet the Paris Agreement’s long-term goals and stressed the urgent need to scale up climate actions. Against this backdrop, Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are among the most vulnerable regions in the world to the impacts of climate change, despite contributing only to a small fraction of global greenhouse gas emissions. Challenges include limited fiscal space, capacity, finance and technology.

The UNFCCC RCC Caribbean, in collaboration with regional and international partners, is organizing in St. George’s, Grenada, a 4-day workshop (5 to 8 October 2026) dedicated to fostering the integration of NDC and NAP implementation with climate financing.

The workshop will provide an opportunity for governments to communicate with regional and international partners with a view to addressing challenges, gaps and barriers with regards to NDC and NAP implementation and financing, and will build upon discussions started during the NDC Clinic that took place during the 2025 Climate Week in Panama City.

The workshop will:

  • Provide participants with key information on the NDC and NAP process, including timelines, target years, relevant COP decisions, design process and technical guidelines, and inform on the support ecosystem available to Caribbean countries.
  • Explore opportunities for NDC implementation, including resource mobilization, policy frameworks, institutional arrangements and capacity building measures necessary for successful execution.
  • Increase the knowledge of participants on the availability of funding to Caribbean countries on the implementation of climate action and the support to develop bankable projects.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange by showcasing successful case studies and best practices from countries within the region through peer exchanges and highlighting innovative approaches to NDC and NAP implementation and investment.
  • Equip policymakers and practitioners with the necessary training and information to develop and implement adaptation plans effectively.
