Enhancing NDCs in 2020: Opportunities in the Transport Sector
Join the conversation: #stepup2020
To set the course for a net-zero emissions future, the Paris Agreement established a goal of limiting warming to well below 2 degrees C, and to pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5 degrees C. The initial national commitments that countries put forward are not enough to avoid these temperature thresholds. However, under Paris, countries agreed to prepare and communicate updated nationally determined contributions (NDCs) every five years to reflect progress toward their highest possible ambition.
The 2020 process of enhancing NDCs offers opportunities for countries to examine the ambition of their initial NDCs and identify how they can fill gaps at a country level. By taking stock and building on recent developments in various sectors, policymakers can identify meaningful, novel ways to enhance national climate commitments in ways that seemed improbable just five years ago.
This webinar focuses on opportunities to strengthen climate action in the transport sector, including vehicle electrification and advanced fuel economy; “avoid and shift” measures to support travel by low-carbon modes; and reduction of freight emissions by leveraging new clean fuels and information technology.
