COP30: From Planning to Implementation: Integrating Macroeconomic and Finance Considerations Into Climate Planning
Countries are increasingly recognizing that ambitious climate action must be grounded in sound macroeconomic and fiscal frameworks to ensure sustainability, resilience, and credibility. While much attention has focused on investment planning and finance mobilization, there is a critical need to address the broader macroeconomic dimensions of climate planning — including growth, employment, debt sustainability, fiscal space, and financial system stability.
This event aims to soft-launch a new Guide on Incorporating Macroeconomic and Finance Issues in Climate Planning. The Guide positions climate planning and finance as a continuum, linking climate plans and strategies to macroeconomic analysis, fiscal policies, and investment mobilization.
A panel of government representatives and implementing partners will discuss how ministries of finance and economic planning, central banks, and climate policymakers can work together to integrate macroeconomic considerations into national climate strategies and plans. The session will highlight country experiences, explore synergies with frameworks such as the NDC Partnership–GCF Climate Investment Planning and Mobilization Framework, and identify opportunities to strengthen the alignment of climate ambition with macroeconomic stability and investment planning.
The discussion will provide policymakers and practitioners with practical insights and tools to integrate macroeconomic and financial perspectives into climate planning.
