National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are key instruments for identifying national priorities and strategies to address climate change. Effective alignment between these planning frameworks is essential to strengthen the coherence and impact of adaptation action and finance.

The Adaptation Fund (AF) has undertaken a comprehensive study on Alignment of Adaptation Fund Portfolio with National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The study provides insights into the extent of this alignment and identifies opportunities for further strengthening national planning processes and investment readiness to mobilize finance for adaptation.

In parallel, the NDC Partnership and the AF, together with other partners, have developed an Adaptation Supplement to the Climate Investment Planning and Mobilization Framework (CIPMF). The Supplement provides practical guidance for countries to integrate adaptation priorities into investment planning, identify financing opportunities, and align adaptation finance with national climate goals.

This joint session will showcase key findings from the AF study and the Adaptation Supplement, highlight good practices from partner countries, and explore how alignment between NAPs, NDCs, and finance planning can accelerate implementation of adaptation priorities under the Paris Agreement.

Objectives

  • Present the findings of the Adaptation Fund’s study on alignment of its portfolio with NAPs and NDCs.
  • Introduce the Adaptation Supplement to the Climate Investment Planning and Mobilization Framework.
  • Share country experiences and perspectives on advancing adaptation investment planning and access to finance.
  • Promote dialogue and collaboration among funds, partnerships, and countries to strengthen adaptation finance coherence.
