COP28: Neglected opportunities to implement NDCs in food systems: Incorporating youth employment and women’s empowerment in African countries
Co-organized by: South South North (SSN), World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF), Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN); Coalition for Action for Soil Health (CA4SH);
Youth and Gender are mentioned in three quarters of NDCs but many times it is a throwaway phrase and it doesn't have any meaningful implementation or money behind it! This event is a call to action for member states to pick up these and other neglected opportunities to transform Food Systems. The panel will also explore entry points for local actors to ensure their role in the practical operationalization of NDCs. We will start with short 2 min video-documentaries to present several experiences and solutions for transforming food systems from civil society, NGOs and research organizations. Recommendations will include topics like soil health, sustainable livestock, youth employment, land tenure and women empowerment. Participants will be invited to interactively suggest, pick up and rank recommendations. A mixed high-level panel of government, civil society, women and youth representatives will be invited to respond if it is politically and financially feasible to bring these recommendations forward to NDCP member states.
