ACS2 Side Event: African Solutions for Scaling Climate Ambition and Resilience in Economic Development
The African Climate Summit will feature African-led solutions for climate change at the core of the needs for economic growth and development. The summit will leverage both domestic and international climate financing based on countries’ priorities and foster new partnerships and regional collaboration to maximize the impact of existing commitments.
As a global coalition of countries, international institutions and development partners, the NDC Partnership has coordinated regional- and country-level efforts to raise the ambition of commitments to the Paris Agreement, accelerate implementation and drive climate finance toward new investments and programs that deliver on national climate goals. Already, within the 2025 UNFCCC NDC revision cycle, the NDC Partnership supported nearly 100 countries in the formulation of their NDCs 3.0 and now stands ready to support them in the next crucial phase: implementation.
At the 2nd Africa Climate Summit, the NDC Partnership will convene a high-level dialogue that brings together concrete and tangible examples from its African country members targeting the core topics of the summit:
- Nature and technology-based solutions for adaptation, development and resilience
- Adaptation and resilience and the cost of inaction related to risks and scalable responses
- The shift from aid to investment in local innovation triggering climate finance and African-led solutions.
This event will convene high-level global leaders to showcase what is already possible if partners engage closely and put the development of the people at the center of efforts to address climate change — moving from planning to implementation in-country. Through highlighting recent successes and examples of collaboration, this event will emphasize how climate action can be accelerated and maximized using existing instruments, programs and financial facilities, leveraging what is already in motion, rather than further proliferating the landscape of new initiatives. Lessons learned from the recently developed NDCs 3.0 will be drawn to showcase how ambition will drive accelerated implementation. More specifically, concrete examples will show how technical assistance and international collaboration can boost ambition and unlock resources necessary for action at scale.
