Japan submitted its first Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2016, followed by an updated version in 2021. In February 2025, Japan submitted its most recent NDC.
The country aims to reduce national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 60% in fiscal year (FY) 2035 and by 73% by FY 2040 compared to FY 2013 levels, on its way to net zero by 2050.
